What Really Counts :: essays research papers
A few stories begin gradually. Some beginning rapidly. A few, tragically never start. It was the last that was gradually turning into the bane â⬠or, through his eyes, the portrayal - of Morgan Duboisââ¬â¢ presence. Without a doubt, his story was delayed in shaping not in view of absence of exertion or want on his own part, however failed over and over because of a huge trouble from the outside world. The outside world, obviously, being young ladies. Standing an unassuming six feet, two creeps in tallness and weighing in at one hundred and eighty-five pounds, Morgan Debois wasnââ¬â¢t that requesting of consideration, and his earthy colored hair and hazel eyes â⬠maddeningly commonplace, in his eyes - never really change that, causing him a deep sense of embarrassment. In spite of the fact that not ugly, Morgan never liked himself gorgeous, and however he wasnââ¬â¢t a heart breaker, young ladies never appeared to see him, either. Dissimilar to numerous other adolescent young men, however, he discovered little comfort on the athletic fields or courts of the secondary school scene. He wasnââ¬â¢t talented in any genuine feeling of the word, he thought. Made and played on the ball group yet never began, and with a couple of minor special cases and features from a sectional title alleviation throwing execution his lesser year, the equivalent went for football and baseball. Indeed, even Morgan himself didnââ¬â¢t take much from his athletic ability, in the event that one could consider it that; when youââ¬â¢re a child of better than expected tallness in a school populace numbering scarcely 170 â⬠if all the Jarrett kids were there, the running joke was â⬠you damn sure better play something, or youââ¬â¢re an eccentric. You were frail. Despite the fact that heââ¬â¢d energetically surrender the way that he was unremarkable and maybe everything except undetectable to the young ladies he liked, Morgan Dubois was no strange. He wasnââ¬â¢t feeble. Furthermore, however the idea never entered his thoughts, inspired by a paranoid fear of the consideration he in some cases so urgently pined for, Morgan Dubois damn sure wouldnââ¬â¢t endure you thinking he was. What's more, that revelation, however unmade starting at yet, is the place Morganââ¬â¢s story, and our own, genuinely starts. Iââ¬â¢ve got the chance to let you know, I saw it coming. *** Solly Jarrett, then again, was. He was feeble. Furthermore, heââ¬â¢d be the first to let it be known. The most youthful â⬠by six minutes; his twin sister Holly about edged him out for the distinctions â⬠of eight kids, Solly was brought up in a family unit that had seen enough accomplishments, both academic and athletic, that he wasnââ¬â¢t going to get considerably more than a ââ¬Ëgood luckââ¬â¢ from Mom or Dad at whatever point he got dropped off at school or the baseball field.

And I Lived...
She grins down at me, living in the full joy of being alive. I dont yet comprehend her significance or her impact, however I love her notwithstanding. I grasp her hand, and we move over the sea shore, joyfully following the shoreline, our jackets shuddering against our arms. We snicker, searching for sand dollars, imitating seagulls, and getting a charge out of nightfall at Higgins Beach. Shivering with life, we come back to the bungalow, our uncovered nerve closes crude from introduction to the breeze blown sand. Our hair is tangled, the inclination of salt air all through it. I drag the curved green hose from the bloom nursery and flush the salt water off our feet. Before long we are venturing into pockets and rediscovering the fortunes discovered only minutes prior. A large portion of an ocean urchin tumbles out, and afterward an especially gleaming woman shoe. Strolling up the bungalow steps, my grandma must stop and investigate the clover. Good luck charms hold an exceptional intrigue for her, thousands lay squeezed in different books, overlooked, the books currently came back to incalculable libraries. We hurl our fortunes in the sink and afterward wash them off. At the point when dried, they are dissipated about the bungalow, put on window ledges, close to lights, emblematically roosted on the TV, the enormous shells consistently held to be utilized as cleanser dishes. The day is done, yet its living isn't. Rapidly we race to change into our night wear. She was never one for robes. I run a toothbrush over my teeth, and bound into her room, grasping a book in my grasp. Hopping on her bed, I see everything has just been orchestrated: the cushions heaped back against the divider, the glass of water on the table, the book on the radio. I smile in the nature, all things considered, and she asks what book I have. I advise her, and hand it to her. We sit close to one another and recline against twelve cushions. She peruses, and I track, totally unconscious of some other world. Very soon the book is done, the section finished, the passage done. I head to sleep while she goes to the cooler for Hershey bars and finishes some perusing of her own. The new day begins with a morning sea shore walk, however today is extraordinary. Were going out to shop. By late morning we have set off in her little blue vehicle. Heading for the bread store I talk interminably about school, my Christmas expectations, and most loved books. Grammy is constantly intrigued by what I am perusing. She also discusses books those she is planning to compose. We maneuver into Country Kitchen and purchase all the day-old bread. Heaping it into her vehicle, we talk about which dress store to navigate. Time to shop. We enter the structure, no genuine objective as a primary concern. No, I dont have one; she does. In her brain she experiences all the individuals she knows, all the individuals she hasnt seen for a spell, individuals she realizes who are sick. What's more, she attempts to discover something for them. Something to make them grin; not all that much or costly or extravagant, only a grin she can wrap up and mail them. Going to the bungalow, we snicker over the stupid things makers are creating. She is amped up for the bread. Maneuvering into the garage she remarks on adding more blossoms to the nursery. Emptying all that we chuckle some more and rush inside. We toss everything in the passage and surge toward the day-old bread. Flying out the entryway, we run down the sea shore. Halting most of the way to the shore, we stand, and start tearing into the bread bundles. Cuts of bread start to pro through the air. Seagulls originate from the most distant parts of the bargains. Layers of circles of cackling gulls, flying cuts of bread, hints of fluttering wings and giggling, the air pushed by flying creature wings, and there, in the middle, my grandma and me. She barely cares about this, aside from the pleasant that it is. That there may be addressing contemplations by neighbors, sea shore walkers, anglers doesnt happen to her. What's more, on the off chance that it does, she doesnt care. My grandma turned into a lady that, past my adoration, I have developed to regard and respect. She decided to separate from her first spouse during the 1930s. Incredible. She kept her two youngsters and before long remarried. Doubts about dating when she had kids? Never. She needed to be a creator. She composed paper articles at age sixteen. However, the huge magazines wouldnt distribute works by a lady. So she changed her name to Duane. No biggie, thought Gram. She has distributed many books in similarly the same number of dialects. Grants, regard, the adoration and profound respect of many. Be that as it may, in my eyes, her most prominent quality was her capacity to live. Her preferred words were, Lets celebrate. At the point when protracted, the full sentence would peruse, Let us celebrate being alive. Not even once did she quit living, quit feeling, quit mindful, quit being. She despised the moronic TV programs, the classless books, the things that stifle an individual to the world. To put it plainly, my grandma recognized what life was, and I, in the entirety of my regard and love for her, have taken in life from her.

Ideal Actions and Outcomes - Literature Essay Samples
Heroes are supposed to embody societyââ¬â¢s ideals as an individual, but they do not always manage to live up to expectations. There are numerous circumstances that cause a person to act in a way that is dissonant to what he or she believes. The short story, ââ¬Å"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,â⬠translated by Y.R. Ponsor, is centred on Sir Gawainââ¬â¢s conflict with himself that peaks when he breaks the code of chivalry that he swore to follow. The epic poem, Beowulf, translated by Lesslie Hall, is focused on a hero who has to save the morose King Hrothgarââ¬â¢s mead hall from a monster named Grendel. Lastly, the ballad Robin Hood and the Three Squires, recorded in the anthology ââ¬Å"McDougal Littell Literature and Language: English and World Literature,â⬠by Richard Craig Goheen, is about a man who saves three squires from execution but murders a sheriff in the process. While the characters in these stories are supposed to be heroic and act ideally by societ yââ¬â¢s standards, it is clear to see that they waver in their morals. Overall, acting outside of ideals can benefit a person in certain situations. A hero may need to act outside of ideals if his or her life is in danger. Sir Gawain, as an honourable knight, has an obligation to not steal. When Gawain steals the scarf from the green knight to protect himself from the green knightââ¬â¢s strike, he breaks his code of conduct. What Gawain does not see after he is shamed by the green knight is that straying from what is considered right, by stealing the scarf, was the best thing he could have done in his situation. The action of stealing falls short of societyââ¬â¢s ideal but it was necessary for Sir Gawain to keep his life as it protects him from the green knights strike. Furthermore, King Arthur and the people of his kingdom do not see Gawain as any less because he stole; they are just happy he is alive. This is evidence to say that the fears Gawain had about the consequences of dishonour are not concrete in his society. Fear can influence a person to act in a way that is not ideal. King Hrothgar is supposed to be a hero and, before the Grendel crisis, he was. This is evident in how Hrothgarââ¬â¢s mead hall was popular before Grendel started causing trouble. Hrothgar was certainly a man who acted by societyââ¬â¢s ideals but, after he saw what Grendel did, he lost his confidence as a king. Hrothgar sat in qualm and did not act against Grendel while his men were murdered. While cowardice is not characteristic of a king, acting against Grendel would have resulted in more damage to Hrothgar and his people. Any attempt made by Hrothgar and his men would have been futile and resulted in a net loss greater than what they experienced during the twelve years of Grendelââ¬â¢s guerilla assaults. Furthermore, Hrothgarââ¬â¢s failure as a king is what leads to Beowulfââ¬â¢s arrival. Making a king act so far outside of societyââ¬â¢s ideal would have been enough to say that the threat of Grendel wa s worthwhile for a stronger hero to intervene. Hrothgarââ¬â¢s instinct to wallow in fear was what saved his life, and the lives of his men, from Grendel. A person may act outside of societyââ¬â¢s ideals if it is easier than following them. Robin Hood is a unique hero. All heroes are villains through some other perspective and Robin Hood is a perfect example. After freeing the three squires, Robin Hood murders the Sheriff who had the squires in custody. The murder of the Sheriff is certainly wrong by societyââ¬â¢s standards and it is done without consideration of whether or not the man may have had value to his life. The sheriff could have had a family and been important to others. Robin Hood has his men kill the sheriff regardless. This act, that is uncharacteristic for a hero, was most likely done because it was the easiest option. Robin Hood would may not have wanted some sheriff telling his colleagues about the trickery he used when he disguised himself as a common peasant. It would have been far easier for Robin Hood to kill the sheriff, and it was probably of his own benefit to do so. The sheriff may have come back and eith er arrested or killed Robin Hood in the future. Even if Robin Hood just killed the sheriff for fun, or because he knew his men wanted to, he avoided potentially having information about him leaked. Acting in questionable ways can have unforeseen benefits. By stepping outside of ideals, a person may put his or her self in a favourable position. Gawain saved his life by stealing from the green knight, Hrothgar did not get murdered by Grendel, and Robin Hood may have saved his own life if the sheriff potentially could have come after him in the future. The most common motive for acting outside of ideals is fear. Fear was certainly the motivation for Gawain and Hrothgar to act how they did, and a strong case can be made to say the same for Robin Hood. Intuitively, it seems like a purely negative thing to act outside of ideals. However, it is evident that this is not reality. Gawain and Hrothgar faced no consequences for their cowardice and Robin Hood was a villain to high society as soon as he freed the squires. In the end, acting in an unideal manner can be beneficial in some circumstances.

El Lar de Idosos free essay sample
The first time I am called beautiful by someone outside of my family is in an elderly home. Iââ¬â¢m eager to find a volunteer position, but as there are too many working in the local Sao Paulo orphanage, I reluctantly agree to spend two hours every Wednesday in a Brazilian elderly home. I donââ¬â¢t like old people, I tell my mother, because I simply donââ¬â¢t know how to act around them. Even so, I soon find myself in a cramped seat on a bus on my way to the lar de idosos. The first day I am terrified. Crinkled old women with baby faces speak to me in Portuguese. Their whispered words whiz over my head and I glue my eyes to the ground in humiliation as their cackles ignite the room. Ela nao fala Portugues, they announce loudly, so I bow my head and live up to their expectations by pretending that I donââ¬â¢t speak Portuguese. We will write a custom essay sample on El Lar de Idosos or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When they turn to look for the television remote, I scurry into the kitchen to prepare drinks, and successfully evade conversation. I make a silent vow not to return the next week. But as Wednesday rolls around, I once again find myself bouncing down the unevenly paved road that leads to the elderly home. To my surprise, the trips fly by, and I suddenly find myself looking forward to my weekly visit. I begin to speak to the ladies. Though colloquial phrases and slang are often lost in my vocabulary, their crinkled mouths move with such passion that I cannot help but be mesmerized. It is not the words that cause laughter to bubble out from between stretched lips, but it is the feeling that accompanies such. To them, it seems that life itself is not as important as the manner in which we embrace it. Recently, my fatherââ¬â¢s job transfer resulted in my trading the Brazilian lar de idosos for an elderly home in Connecticut. Here, everything is different. The room is new and full of new faces, but strangely the people I came to know in Brazil are the same people here. The elderly in Connecticut, though incapable of shopping online or utilizing the latest technology, teach me lessons that could never be found on Google. A woman named Jane shows me her ankle that has grown to the size of a small cantaloupe, and tells of how it was broken at her grandsonââ¬â¢s baseball game. I make note to avoid foul balls at such sporting events. A small, weathered man from China speaks to me in broken English about his own experience on a track team. I examine his quivering figure and cannot help but imagine him flying down a maroon colored track, his fingers wrapped snugly around a slick baton. Relating to these people does not come easily to me, but the more time I spend with them, the better I become at listening. A few weeks ago, as I enter the dining hall I am called ââ¬Å"beautifulâ⬠by a 102 year-old man who is seated in his usual red plush seat, drinking his usual small cranberry with ice. I match his toothless smile with a grin of my own. I say, ââ¬Å"Thank you.ââ¬

Examine the arguments for and against international labour standard Essay
Examine the arguments for and against international labour standard - Essay Example Furthermore, the government prohibits in trade union formations amongst work force. These factors have stressed the superiority of capital market on labor market. The work force is under severe oppression and deserves much better dealings than they are presently receiving. There are billions of people getting less than a dollar in a day and working in malnourished condition. However, in this case we note that 80% of foreign direct investments flows from one advanced nation to another. Neoliberalism hasnââ¬â¢t delivered on its egalitarian promisesâ⬠¦.and by 1999, the wealth of the worldââ¬â¢s 475 billionaires was greater than the combined income of the poorest half of the humanityâ⬠. (Featherstone, L (2002, p Viii). The portions of investments, which are going to the developing economy, are not essentially once with low wage level. This does not mean that the free trade is a negative approach. A better socialistic approach needs to be maintained to handle the ill effects of open trade. A different dealing with corporate greed has to be done from government perspective. In recent time lots of changes have been incorporated, companies with image issues like Microsoft and Shell has gone in for charitable moves. In recent days the corporatio n has taken a ââ¬Å"community bettermentâ⬠approach attached to their vision statement, though the money making motive remains the main goal. In capitalist market there is a fear of lowering of the living standard from the competitors in labor market economies. (Beneria and Bisnath, 2004, pp 173-176). Therefore widespread grievances on immigrations are expressed in the developed world. In this context the example of China and India can be sited. In case of China, there is a rural migrant moving from villages. These people are working for seven days a week with a daily commitment up to 12 hours. On the other hand,

Management Problem Solving - Facquier Gas Company Case Study
Management Problem Solving - Facquier Gas Company - Case Study Example After making inquiries from the design engineer, Pat Wilson, it became evident to Murphy that the new project would require pipes of different specifications from those used in previous projects. In his opinion, Murphy considered the time span from January to June sufficient in conformity to the millââ¬â¢s lead-time. However, Murphy had not received such details in April, although the project was scheduled to commence in June, and due for the conclusion in September. The supply management, construction and design organizations were under the headship of the vice-president of operations. The design engineer, Pat Wilson and construction engineer Sam Law fail to approve the pipe specifications in good time, compelling Murphy to inquire from Wilson, only to realize that the pipes required were of different specifications. Time had lapsed until April 14, leaving Murphy worried about the limited time for the procurement process of the materials required in a bid to meet the June deadline, the scheduled time for the onset of the project. One of the possible solutions would involve Murphy consulting with Clive Byers, the project manager and highlighting that the specifications were yet to be communicated. This would compel Murphy to schedule a meeting with Byers as soon as possible. Byers would then inquire from Sam Law and Pat Wilson. After receiving information from them, he would strive to ensure that the specifications are communicated to Murphy. In this solution, Murphy would have acted wisely by not overreaching Byers, since he heard the initial information about the project from him. Byers has the capacity to inquire from the Wilson and Sam Law because he is the project manager, and has the mandate of ensuring that execution of projects occurs within the set timelines. Moreover, this would serve to solve the problem at the lower level without involving higher authority. Alternatively, Murphy would approach the Charlie Buck, the design superintend, and inquire from him.Ã

The Bedroom in The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman :: The Yellow Wallpaper Essays
The Yellow Wallpaper:à The Bedroom à The bedroom is an overvalued fetish object that nevertheless threatens to reveal what it covers over. John's time is spent formulating the bedroom in a way that conceals his associations of anxiety and desire with the female body, but also re-introduces them. The bedroom's exterior, its surface, and its outer system of locks, mask a hidden interior that presumably contains a mystery--and a dangerous one. The bedroom in "The Yellow Wallpaper" generates this tension between the desire to know and the fear of knowing: on one hand, the enigma of the bedroom invites curiosity and beckons us towards discovery; on the other hand, its over- determined organization is seated within a firm resolution to build up the bedroom, so that what it hides remains unrealized. Mulvey writes, "Out of this series of turning away, of covering over, not the eyes but understanding, of looking fixidly at any object that holds the gaze, female sexuality is bound to remain a mystery" ("Pandora" 70). à à à à à This mystery-bound-to-remain-a-mystery is exposed when the (voyeuristic) subject and the (fetishistic) object exchange places. At the story's close, the narrator is determined to "astonish" John. "I don't want to go out," she writes, "and I don't want to have anybody come in, till John comes. I want to astonish him" (Gilman 34). John comes home to find that she has "locked the door and thrown the key down into the front path" (Gilman 34). 'John dear!' said I in the gentlest voice, 'the key is down by the front steps, under a plantain leaf!' That silenced him for a few moments. Then he said--very quietly indeed, 'Open the door, my darling!' 'I can't,' said I. 'The key is down by the front door under a plantain leaf!' And then I said it again, several times, very gently and slowly, and said it so often that he had to go and see, and he got it of course, and came in. He stopped short by the door. 'What's the matter?' he cried. 'For God's sake, what are you doing!' I kept on creeping just the same, but I looked at him over my shoulder. 'I've got out at last,' said I, 'in spite of you and Jane. And I've pulled off most of the paper, so you can't put me back!' Now why should that man have fainted? But he did, and right across my path by the wall, so that I had to creep over him every time! The Evolution of the Value-Added Service Concept
The value added service concept has become popular recently although it has been existent for the past few decades. The concept was formally introduced by the telecommunication industry, a term they used for non-core service offerings that they were offering consumers in order to provide the consumers an incentive for purchase and as a differentiation factor for their business. Some of the characteristics of value added services are that they are usually the non core service or product offering for the business. However it is still possible for the value added services to stand alone operationally and be offered as a separate product. Another important characteristic for a value added service is that although it enhances the basic product/ service offering it should not attempt to cannibalize the main product/service offering for the business, i.e., take the customers away from the main product. The most commonly used value added services include the following:Offering different types of packaging and sizes for the productProviding specific service levels for the products with specific service level agreements for services Rewarding the consumers for their loyalty to the brand by giving them gifts and developing frequent buy programs Providing specific training and education for the product and service or a value added service center like a help line or a customer support center for the clients. ââ¬Å"They are about performing all of those activities as close to the end consumer as possible.â⬠(ââ¬ËImpact of Value Added Service Centerââ¬â¢, 2002)à Provide different types of qualities for the product according to the requirements of the consumer. Premium pricing can be charged on these quality levels.à Providing efficient and speedy delivery service with order tracking facilityIn the recent years however the concept of value added services has changed. Previously consumers expected the core product to be the product itself, but now consumers tend t o expect the product to have specific type of additional services and characteristics in them which were previously only considered value added services. These value added services have now become rudimentary in nature and the consumers now expect the product to have the value added services. Moreover the value added characteristic has also changed talking form of customization for the consumer. An example explaining this change is previously we used to have mobile phone with the basic capability of dialing for calls and receiving calls on a mobile device. Then the SMS, a VAS, was introduced which enabled consumers to send text messages to other people. Now the mobile phone have digital camera, mp3/mp4 players and an operating system which also were introduced as Value added services but now have become an integral feature of the product it self. The reason for the change in the dynamics relating to value added service offering has been mainly due to the consumersââ¬â¢ perception o f the products and their expectations. They have come to expect certain kind of vale added services to be a component of the product itself, even though it is actually a value added service. This has lead to customization for many consumer goods taking place where business are using niche marketing strategies to provide products and services which are very specialized and customized and in natureThe value added services offered have evolved largely also due the technology available to the companies as well. They have tried to differentiate their product/ service offering by making their operations more efficient and investing in technologies which have let them achieve comparative advantage. One of such technological investment has been in the packaging industry. à ââ¬Å"Evolution isn't a theory in packaging; it's a fact of life. Corrugated and folding carton converters stake their survival on evolving their menu of value-added services to meet the changing needs of their custome rs. That can require a substantial investment in technology.â⬠(ââ¬ËThe Evolution of Relationship Sellingââ¬â¢, 2005)In the future as well as the dynamics of consumer consumption decisions and purchase decisions change the value added services offered by corporations and businesses will tend to evolve and change in order to respond to the latent and apparent needs and requirements of the consumer.References:(2005), The Evolution of Relationship Selling, Paperboard Packaging.Mylonopoulos, N. Women s Empowerment Of Women - 959 Words
This poem is from a modern perspective, and reflects the empowerment that women have created for themselves in the last century. One of the ways which female oppression became so widespread and successful was the acquiescence of the majority of women. Women were beaten, killed, imprisoned, and ostracized for standing up to oppression. However, the more that women refused to be made into objects and mistreated the less men were able to do so with impunity. Speraââ¬â¢s poem is rich with bitter disgust of how careless men remain today. Even though women are much more self-sufficient, have representation in the courts, and greater access to education, men are very slow on the uptake of equality. Patriarchy is still in power today, and many men ride on the ideological coat-tails of history, unwilling to accept womenââ¬â¢s empowerment. Even the most liberal minded males balk with offense if they meet a women more capable than themselves. Because of the heavy handed double standard of the gender wars, women of the past have been required to be many things for a man, but no standards were placed on the man. Even though this has changed today, there are still many men who make no real attempt to be a good mate; content that if they do not beat their partner they are better than the majority. The fact is, violence towards women is still rampant worldwide for the same reasons Browning wrote. Men are intimidated by the capacity, brilliance, and empowered stance of women. How to Teach Yourself Computer Programming 2019
You may have noticed that computer programmers seemingly speak in a language all their own. Usually their discussions entail issues about a program theyre writing, which may be written in any one of scores of computer languages. So the discussion you hear is about the functions created by using one of those languages or another. While code writing is done on the same keyboard regardless of the computer language, the meaning of what is on those keys may mean any number of things, depending on the computer language. Learning computer programming, then, involves a few steps. The first is studying the underlying theories of programming and grasping the nature of the universe, so to speak. The second is learning about the various computer platforms in use that define how a computer functions and, therefore, how software programs for the platform must be devised. The third is coming to grips with the number of software languages that are out there and learning to use one or two or more of the most common languages. Or, if you are focused on a specialty such as web development, learning the two or three languages that are used in that profession. .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84:active, .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84 .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .udd3eb150c3735cf865d525af6aac2e84:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Success and Online Finance DegreeProgramming skills are taught at most universities and colleges but a more focused and accessible resource is the online college or technical school. Westwood College offers an online information technology (IT) associates degree in software engineering. While this is a little different from programming, it is important groundwork for a thorough understanding of software construction. The course of study includes an introduction to UNIX, one of the major computer platforms; the fundamentals of programming; introduction to HTML (the internet programming language); Java software development; and relational databases. All of these are programming topics. Kaplan University is an online college that offers both an associates degree and a bachelors degree in programming. Hiv / Aids A Health Concern And Despite The Knowledge Of...
HIV/AIDS is a health concern and despite the knowledge of the disease, the infections are increasing especially amongst Blacks. This topic is particularly of interest to me because I feel that there is a greater need to apply sociology to explain why the rate of infections is increasing amongst certain demographics principally in the blacks/African American in the United States and not the people of whiteness. Blacks/ African Americans are not to blame for the HIV/AIDS, the social environment in which they live affects the individuals and in turn the way they think, act and behave. Corresponding to Lisa McIntyre (The Practical Skeptic, 2011), the sociological concept of social imagination ââ¬Å"disregards biases against individuals and appeals to sources outside the individualâ⬠or social forces to explain behavior (p.31) furthermore, the concept of social imagination allows one to tackle the problems from the grassroots and promises significant change in the results. Definit ion and Statistics Conferring to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus which leads to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), (CDC, 2014). Leadership Model Human Resource Manager
Question: Discuss about theLeadership Model for Human Resource Manager. Answer: My Leadership Model as a Human Resource Manager As a human resource manager in my organization over the past years, I have been using participative leadership style as my best model when it comes to the employees as told by Zehir and Ertosun (2011, p.1465). Also known as democratic leadership style where I freely involve my employees in decision making. I take my employees ideas, considerations, and opinions when it comes to decision making as one of their leader where every member has to participate freely in decisions making process. The participative style I chose it as one of my best leadership styles after studying it as one of the best methods in engaging the employees to be more creative as well as motivating them for the efficient running of the organization. Working together as a team from all the working staffs also promotes success and better achievement of our joint organization goals and visions since we are a sales company we will have to aim for high sales of our products and satisfaction of our customer's needs. My area of primary leadership can also be derived from behavioral theory. Whereby I took few years to learn and observe my fellow human resource managers in the organization where I sharpened my management skills and traits through aping their actions of leadership and way of ruling. Through further assessing their managerial skills for example how they were building good relationships with our esteemed customers as well as how they improved decision-making with other employees forced me to employ excellent communication skills to all working for staff as from the first experience I never knew how to communicate well with the employees as illustrated by Schaubroeck et ell (2012, pp.1056). Multiculturalism has also enlightened my leadership model as a human resource manager in this large company which has many foreign workers who speak different languages and have different cultures. My curiosity to explore the world has made me know different cultures and languages which have assisted me in understanding various working individuals from all parts of the world. Also, being a Christian where different values and traits of loving and treating our brothers and sisters benefited me in this model leadership style where I employ the Moses qualities or King David from the Bible in ruling as a common person to all cultures and religions. Either a Muslim, Hindu or Christian. The Main Organizing Idea in my Leadership Model as a Resource Manager For efficient performance and success in my leadership style or design are my vision and better goal setting which is to enhance commitment to all the employees and develop the high-performance attitude for high success. Good teamwork which comes from allowing decision making from all the members without leaving out others will create a good relationship which will heavily assist in the achieving of our primary goals and objectives of the organization according to Liu et ell (2014, pp.288). Therefore, as a high performing leader, I have instilled proper communication strategies to the whole of my working staff hence my main organizing issue of participation by every employee will lead to better high performance and success. Lastly, the participative leadership style will lead to the real relationship of team members who will work properly in achieving our goals and objectives. Most Important Traits, Skills, and Tasks for an Effective Leader For one to be a great leader in an organization, I consider the following qualities and competencies to be employed by each person for better success of the business as stated by Grissom et ell (2011 pp.1091). First is integrity. Effective leaders are honest and transparent to their team and all the individuals they daily engage with in their work. They should do what they say and always tell the truth by adhering to the ethics and morals of the society. Great leaders should also possess excellent communication skills whereby one has to communicate often to his or her team members appropriately without having problems of channeling of information. It can be done either through phone calls, emails or letters or even face to face with one's members. One should also solve problems and analyze issues affecting the organization appropriately and tactfully since being a leader one is correctly trained on how to solve problems and issues arising. Therefore, better solutions to the problems are efficiently provided. Again, confidence is very vital. As an effective leader, one is supposed to be calm and confident when dealing with issues of the organizations. As a team leader, one should not panic or show worry whenever problems arise for example when the company sales go terribly down in low seasons of the year. As a manager, I tend to stay calm and try to boost the employee's morale and assure all the team members all will be okay. Thus helping the team members to improve their level of confidence band work efficiently towards tackling organization problems. Lastly, as a great leader, one should have a positive attitude from both his and her team members and should always motivate his staff whenever they perform ass simplified by Solansky (2010, p.675). Good motivation, for example, I usually offer my employees family vacations or bonuses whenever they reach a certain set target of sales which makes them feel catered for when it comes to running the organization. What the Leadership Practiced is Seeking to Achieve The leadership practiced in my module is seeking to achieve people making better decisions as a group than when deciding all alone. Through people making decisions together, there is the increase in social commitments to each other which brings about increased commitment to the decision. People are collaborating more when working towards goal achievement rather than being competitive as stated by Yahaya and Ebrahim (2016, p.196). The Core Values my Leadership Emphasizes My leadership model mainly dwells on the following core values in running the organization. One is openness, honesty, and integrity where as a leader I have challenged every member of my team to be open and honest with each employee from making decisions to the handling of clients thus this helps them to stand out of the crowd show whom they are without fear. Innovation and creativity are also core values I have tried to engage my workers with whereby they can come up with something unique and different or with other new ideas and innovations which will assist us as an organization in achieving our goals and settings better ones. With great creativity and innovation makes my employees better and best in the competitive world ahead of others. Passion and enthusiasm are also other core values my leadership entails. As a human resource manager, I try to help my employees achieve their dreams and visions where they can engage themselves in what they love doing. Therefore, by being passionate about what they are doing will help them achieve their goals efficiently. How the Relationship in the Organization that Exists will Benefit The existing team members will massively benefit from having to acquire skills and knowledge freely from other workers since my leadership mainly encourages teamwork. Therefore, the members will have to learn from others and assist each other properly without having being sent to training. The good brotherhood relationship created among them will also help them in having excellent communication skills as well as interpersonal traits well dealing with other employees as described by Rosing (2011, pp.959). Their morale will also be boosted therefore leading them to specialize well in what they love mostly doing as one is allocated or assigned tasks according to their area of expertise. The real working environment will, therefore, be a created from the above leadership. Therefore, the organization goals and objectives are efficiently achieved by competent employees. The Culture of the Organization that will Exist using Participative Leadership Model Participative leadership model creates a culture of productivity in the organization since employees can work to their level best in achieving the firm's targets therefore increasing productivity which is a definite trend towards success as indicated by Dorfman (2012. p.515). Why My Leadership Model is Different I chose Participative leadership model as my style of leadership since it involves the entire team is working with when it comes to focusing and decision making as I cooperate closely with every member, unlike autocratic leadership where the leader makes all the decisions alone without involving other members as seen by Arakelyan (2016.p.141). Therefore, with participative leadership style can have a broad range of ideas, skills, and decisions to assist me in solving problems efficiently unlike other models like autocratic where one has to figure out for himself or herself all the decisions which make it more hectic According to Yukl (2012, p.68) How to Employ Participative Leadership Model As a human resource manager, I have easily made all the employees be it junior staff or supervisors participate heavily in decision-making processes of the organization. For example, in the sales department, all employees concerned with sales can sit in a panel of their own with all the supervisors and make better quality decisions concerning how they will have to increase their annual sales according to L., Lin, L. and Chang-Yen, T., (2011 pp.1044-1054). Therefore, each ones ideas and decisions are put into consideration for better success of the organization and in that way participative leadership employed in the whole organization. A Visit to the Animal Kingdom in Florida free essay sample
English Reflective Essay Florida is portrayed as a fantasy land where Mickey Mouse greets you around every corner and where Cinderella actually lives, where days go by without a single drop of rain and the sky is consistently perfectly blue. However this was the farthest thing from my mind as I sat in an immense carbon-emmiting monster whose air conditioning has spluttered and died and while the heavens poured the air was so thick and mucky that flies were sticking to the windshield as we drove, only to be washed away by the drowning rain. As this was happening, my dad who was yet to figure out his left from his right had the near-miracle task of finding our hotel. Which was almost impossible because visibility was limited to about a yard and that requires great concentration, which was hard to find after the fiasco at the airport. Day 2 To my great excitement, Animal Kingdom was our first theme park, rather disappointing though what was hyped up to be a splendour of animal based excitement turned out to be a zoo with the odd thrill. We will write a custom essay sample on A Visit to the Animal Kingdom in Florida or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page However my memory of the first day was largely marred by Dad; with his new and shiny American muscle car; forgot that when all four doors were shut the lock system was activated. All hell broke lose! With my mum muttering and rambling nonchalantly and quietly with the odd distinguishable, God.. men and my dad, the man of the household and the decisive being, who was spouting all sorts of obscenities and was spanking the car, lightly so no damage was done but gave the impression that somehow it was the cars fault, it was up to me (seeming the only level headed member of the family) to aqcuire the basic survival needs such as food and water. With out park tickets being used for the day there was no way of buying fresh water. Giving up on the task of survival and surrending to the fate of the great over-powering Florida sunshine that was gobbling up every ounce of liquid, I went to a little ledge at the very far side of the car park and with ironic timing the edge of my eye caught sight of a little pool. And just like an oasis in the middle of the Sahara desert the temptation to drink from this minor miracle was extreme. As I squatted and stared while heavily drooling with my mouth arid there was a conflict of conscience apparent in my head. The good side was reciting the well known fact that one of the locals had stated, In every pool of water in Florida there is an alligator. The other evil side accompanied by my sailva and most major organs, was willing to tempt fate yet my good conscience claimed noble victory and I was left to dessicate. And looking back on it, it was probably a wise decision, however the journey back to the apartment was like a front row seat between Mohammed Ali and Mike Tyson.

The Fairy Tales Of Gun Control Essays - Firearms, Gun Politics
The Fairy Tales Of Gun Control The Fairy Tales of Gun Control When a madman in Dunblane, Great Britain rampages and kills 16 children, it was the fuel politicians needed to fire the anti-gun movement. Great Britain banned the sale and ownership of handguns in 1997. But nobody expected the surge of violent crime that followed. Britains rate of assault, robbery, and burglary now exceed those in the United States. Murder and rape figures are now getting closer to U.S. rates. Between 1997 and 1999 were the highest murder rates in the past 10 years. According to Dr. Timothy Wheeler, American news media have virtually ignored this amazing change, even as politicians push more stringent, British-style gun-control. Gun control would not work in the U.S. because it would diminish public safety, raise crime rates, and boost the illegal sale of firearms. The public view of the gun is that it is used to commit violent crimes. But the truth is that the gun is also used everyday to protect the public. Every law officers and enforcement agent uses guns to control everyday criminal activity and protect the public. But public citizens to protect themselves and others also use the gun. One such case is the Pearl High School shooting. Joel Myrick, an assistant principal at the school, heard shoots and herded students into his office and locked up the door behind him. Myrick remembered that he had his .45 automatic in his car because he always takes a weapon whenever he travels. Myrick ran to his car and after getting his gun, he chased down the shooter, Luke Woodham, and forced him onto the ground as they waited for police to arrive. As Kenneth Smith reported, anyone reading the local paper would have known all about Joel Myricks heroics. But anyone watching a national evening newscast wouldnt have known that it took an armed man to stop the shooting. Another such case were a gun was used to protect the public was in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. In April 1998, a 14 year-old student walked into a school dance with a .25-caliber handgun and opened fire, killing a science teacher and wounding several students. When he fled the scene, the owner or the hall, James Strand, chased him down with a shotgun into a field and held him for 11 minutes until police arrived. Kenneth Smith reports that New York Daily News said only that Strand had persuaded the shooter to surrender and the shotgun was never mentioned. In May 1998, gun education stopped 15-year old Kip Kinkel from his shooting spree in the cafeteria of Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon. At one time, he pointed a .22 caliber semiautomatic rifle at a students head and attempted to fire three times but nothing happened. Jacob Ryker, who was shot in the lungs, Charged 15 feet and tackled Kinkel and disarmed him. Kenneth Smith wrote ABCs Ted Koppel credited Ryker with halting the shooting, non-of the specific details were given and the program quickly turne d into another debate on gun control. Kenneth Smiths retaliation in his report was Ryker knew when to attack Kinkel because Ryker knew the gun was out of ammunition. Ryker and his family were hunters and target shooters and his familiarity with firearms helped to stop the shooting. Secondly, gun control would raise the crime rates in the U.S. The public would not be able to protect themselves against criminals with illegal firearms. Even Darrel Scott, whose 17 year-old daughter, died in the Columbine massacre, is skeptic of the new gun control measures. Scott argues, No amount of laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. Furthermore, as reporter Kenneth Smith points out, a Florida State University study says Americans use guns to defend themselves as many as 2.5 million a year. In most cases, the gun were not fired but was used to deter the criminals. In addition, when Great Britain banned the sale and ownership of handguns in 1997, crime rates rose dramatically in the following year. As Doctor Timothy Wheeler point out, in 1998, BBC News reported that violence against a person rose by 16% and sexual offenses rose by 4.5%. The robbery
